Day-by-Day Itinerary

1

Weligama → Matara → Tangalle → Ranna → Ambalathota → Hambanthota

102 km

Head east along the southern coast — past Matara's Dutch ramparts and the long golden arc of Tangalle beach — through the quiet fishing village of Ranna and past Hambanthota's salt pans.

2

Weerawila → Tissa → Kataragama → Wellawaya

109 km

Push through the bird-rich wetlands of Weerawila, past the sacred pilgrimage city of Kataragama, and north through the dry zone to Wellawaya at the foot of the highlands.

3

Ella → Haliela → Welimada → Hakgala → Nuwara Eliya

90 km

The big climb. Ascend into the highlands via Ella — stop at the famous Nine Arches Bridge — then wind through tea estates past Hakgala Botanical Garden to misty Nuwara Eliya.

4

Rest Day — Nuwara Eliya

Rest Day

A day off the bike in Sri Lanka's hill country capital. Explore the colonial-era town, visit a working tea factory, or simply enjoy the cool mountain air after the climb.

5

Horton Plains → Kalupahana → Belihuloya

92 km

Cross the roof of Sri Lanka. Ride through Horton Plains National Park — a windswept plateau at 2,100 m — then descend dramatically via Kalupahana to Belihuloya.

6

Balangoda → Udawalawa

72 km

Drop to the lowlands through the rubber country of Balangoda and skirt the Udawalawa Reservoir, arriving at the edge of the national park — renowned for its wild elephant herds.

7

Rest Day — Udawalawa

Rest Day

A day to enjoy Udawalawa. Take an optional jeep safari into the national park to see elephants, water buffalo, and crocodiles in their natural habitat.

8

Embilipitiya → Middeniya → Weeraketiya → Beliatta → Dikwella → Matara → Weligama

105 km

The final long coastal run home. Roll south through the quiet villages of Embilipitiya, Middeniya, and Weeraketiya, rejoin the coast at Beliatta, pass Dikwella's famous blowhole and Matara's star fort, and ride back into Weligama.
