Sinharaja Southern Loop

Start your loop from Weligama and ride the southern coastal highway north. Pause at Galle Fort — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — and the traditional mask-carving town of Ambalangoda before turning inland to Pitigala.

Head deeper into the foothills. The roads narrow and the air cools as you pass through Neluwa and the lush river valley of Morawaka, then on through Deniyaya to the edge of Sinharaja — Sri Lanka's last viable lowland rainforest.

A full day to explore the buffer zone of Sinharaja — a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Trek through dense rainforest canopy, spot endemic birds and wildlife, and let the rhythm of the jungle set the pace.

Drop down from the hills through Suriyakanda onto the dry southern plains, arriving at the edge of Udawalawa National Park — renowned for its wild elephant herds.

A day off the bike to enjoy Udawalawa. Take an optional jeep safari into the national park to see elephants, water buffalo, and crocodiles in their natural habitat.

The final coastal run home. Wind past Tangalle's secluded lagoons, Dikwella's dramatic blowhole, along the promenade at Matara, and back to Weligama where the loop began.
