East Coast Odyssey
From the deep south to Arugam Bay & back
The most ambitious route in the south. Ten days from Matara that sweep east to the world-famous surf town of Arugam Bay, climb into the highlands via Ella and Badulla, and loop back through Udawalawa to the coast. Three rest days let you savour the wildlife, the surf, and the highlands.

Arugam Bay → Panama → Monaragala → Passara

Badulla → Demodara → Ella
41 kmInto the highlands. Visit Badulla — the end-of-line hill country town — and the famous Demodara loop bridge, one of the engineering marvels of the colonial railway era. Descend to the backpacker haven of Ella.
Rest Day — Ella
